TYPE 1 DIABETES MELLITUS

  • Bed-wetting in children who have never wet the bed during the night

Causes

Complications

  • Nerve damage (neuropathy): Tingling, numbness, burning, or pain in the extremities, especially the feet and hands. Can also affect the digestive system, leading to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or erectile dysfunction.
  • Kidney damage (nephropathy): Can lead to kidney failure or end-stage kidney disease, requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant.
  • Eye damage: Diabetic retinopathy can cause blindness. Increased risk of cataracts and glaucoma.
  • Foot damage: Nerve damage and poor blood flow can increase the risk of infections and amputations.
  • Skin and mouth conditions: Increased risk of bacterial and fungal infections, gum disease, and dry mouth.
  • Pregnancy complications: Increased risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, birth defects, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic retinopathy, pregnancy-induced high blood pressure, and preeclampsia.
