CME Program on New Born Care

At 6.30 pm, the program started with a welcome speech by Dr. P C Cherian (Medical Superintendent, Thiruvalla Medical Mission). He welcomed all doctors to the program and explained facilities available at TMM Hospital for maternal and newborn care.

After the welcome speech and inauguration, Dr.Annamma Kuriachen gave a presentation on Therapeutic Hypothermia in Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE). She discussed about the physiological basis of cooling, importance of cooling and results obtained on the basis of several studies. Along with that she pointed out the types of cooling modalities most suited for Indian scenario and added that TMM hospital will soon introduce Therapeutic Hypothermia with Phase changing material in NICU.

After Dr.Annamma’s talk; Dr. Dona Mary, discussed about perinatal interventions in reducing morbidity in preterm babies. She explained the benefits of timely administration of antenatal steroids.

And then; Dr. Nelby George Mathew, discussed about “Common Neonatal Problems”. He covered topics like How to manage Neonatal emergencies, Common complaints in Neonatology OPD for pediatricians, Common Maternal concerns and Ideal new born screening methods.

Dr Asha Raghavan WHO surveillance officer talked about polio eradication strategies and

Dr Ramesh Kumar (NNF State secretary and IAP National Executive Board member) addressed the gathering and stressed about the need for more frequent scientific sessions.

Dr Rony Joseph (Secretary –IAP Pathanamthitta) gave Vote of thanks and later he distributed mementos to the speakers.

After an appetizing Dinner, Meeting was adjourned by 9 pm.
